Types of covers, access covers and grates
Square covers and access covers
Sets consisting of cover and frame for closing inspection chambers and underground installations. They are offered in different sizes and load classes for pavements, patios, car parks, roads and traffic areas.
Within this family, you will find standard models and infill access covers, designed to integrate with the surface finish planned on site.
Circular access covers
Cast iron access covers for sanitation manholes and manholes, available in non-hinged, hinged, locking, gasketed, ventilated, watertight or infill surface versions.
Certain models are prepared for installation on prefabricated concrete cones with a Ø600 mm opening.
Grates for gullies
Hinged, anti-theft, diagonal or parallel grates for collecting rainwater and directing it towards individual gullies.
Depending on the load class, they can be intended for road shoulders, car parks, carriageways and areas subject to moderate or heavy traffic.
Check the type of installation
Grates intended for individual gullies must not be used as continuous or transverse grates. For a linear drainage system, a grate, channel or set specifically designed for that use must be selected.
Drains and siphonic boxes
Solutions for collecting and evacuating rainwater, available with vertical or horizontal outlet and connections for pipes of different diameters.
The range includes cast iron drains and polypropylene boxes with frame, hinged grate and internal siphonic elements designed to reduce the passage of odours.
Continuous grates and channels
Products intended for linear drainage in patios, industrial areas, access points, car parks and traffic areas.
They include frameless grates, continuous models with locking system and channels with different support, connection and resistance solutions.
Load classes B125, C250 and D400
The load class indicates the resistance for which the set has been designed and tested. Its choice must be made according to the exact point where the product will be installed and the expected type of traffic.
Class B125
Indicated for pavements, pedestrian areas, patios and areas where light traffic may exist, always according to the location and the project.
Class C250
Commonly used on road shoulders, gutters, areas close to the kerb, car parks and areas subject to moderate loads.
Class D400
Intended for carriageways, roads, industrial areas and spaces where heavy vehicles circulate, according to the conditions defined for the installation.
A class lower than that required by the project or by the actual loads that the access cover will support must not be used.
How to choose a cast iron cover or access cover
Before placing the order, both the dimensions of the inspection chamber and the installation conditions must be checked. The commercial size alone does not always match the clear opening or the external size of the frame.
- Load class: determines whether the area is pedestrian, moderate traffic or heavy traffic.
- Nominal size: commercial reference used to identify the model.
- Clear opening: useful internal opening available to access the installation.
- External frame: total space the product needs to rest on and be set into the work.
- Frame height: must adapt to the available depth and the planned pavement.
- Shape: square, rectangular, circular or specific for gully and drainage.
- Special features: lock, hinge, gasket, ventilation, watertightness or infill surface.
Always check the technical sheet and the complete dimensions before selecting the product.
Ductile cast iron for access covers and drainage
Ductile cast iron is used in covers, frames and grates due to its mechanical resistance and its ability to work in installations subject to repeated loads.
The final behaviour of the set also depends on correct installation, full support of the frame, the bedding materials and the condition of the pavement surrounding the installation.
The load class corresponds to the complete set formed by the cover or grate and frame, not only to one of its parts.
