The plastic slat is a plastic slab measuring 60x40 cm and approximately 2 cm thick. This product is designed and intended to be able to make a double floor installed in a pit (similar to those for rabbits), which makes its cleaning significantly easier using high-pressure water systems. The objective is that the dirt that may remain in the Slat falls into the pit and then this dirt goes out to another common pit where it will later be extracted for recycling.
The Slat floor needs a support for its fixation. This support is called a profile when it is made of plastic and a plate when it is made of galvanized metal. We recommend our clients use plastic profiles because they avoid oxidation problems, taking into account that dog urine is one of the most corrosive types of urine for metal.
Supported on the plastic profiles, the Slat does not fall into the pit where all the dirt from the kennels collects. It should be noted that the pit needs a step of about 5 cm on each side to support the profiles. This step would have to be approximately 10 cm high so that the Slat is completely level with the concrete floor.
Installation Practical Case
We imagine that we have a kennel and we want to put a 120x180 cm Slat floor to make cleaning easier. We would begin to build the pit that would be 110x180 cm (since we need 5 cm on each side to support the profile), successively we will place the profiles supported on the 5 cm steps and then we will install 6 Slats, which are necessary to complete said measurement . This can be done as wide as you want, reaching perfectly 1.2x20 meters.
What happens if I want to make a 4 meter deep pit?
In this case, a support should be built 2 meters from the pit with a minimum width of 10 cm so that these profiles can be supported.
Main Advantages:
- The plastic slat plate provides greater hygiene for our dog, since it is not in direct contact with urine and parasites that accumulate in porous areas such as concrete.
- It is more comfortable for the animal than a slab or concrete.
